ROCKWALL CRITERIUMS BIKE RACE Sunday morning, August 9, 2009 from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm Rockwall Technology Park, located at Hwy 276 & FM 549
Come watch as local cyclists compete against riders from across the metroplex and state in a “Crit” race, where speeds approach 50 miles per hour! Crit racing is the most popular style of bicycle racing in the United States, because it is high speed and easily viewable by spectators. Crit racing consists of packs of 40-80 riders racing each other on a 1 mile loop course for 30 to 75 minutes per race. Some have described it as “NASCAR on Bikes.” The race will be held inside the Rockwall Technology Park.
This is believed to be the first Crit race sanctioned by USA Cycling to ever be held in Rockwall. Spectators may view the race for free. Plus, there will be a free “Kids Lap” at 11:45 am for kids under 14, with medals for all finishers. For more information on the race or to register for the race, visit www.rockwallcycling.com and view the “Rockwall Crit Race” page.
The race is produced by the Rockwall Cycling Club, a race team that is an official USA Cycling club. Notably, in only its second year of existence, Rockwall Cycling Club has over 50 race team members and is currently ranked as the #7 team in Texas road racing by the Texas Bicycle Racing Association. Come cheer on the local team!
The Crit race is sponsored by the local bike shop, Rockwall Cycling. The race is also made possible thanks to support from the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation, Chiloso Mexican Bistro, Costco of Rockwall, David McGaffin DDS, Alliance Bank, ProSoap, Everybody Massage, and others.
Proceeds to benefit the formation of the youth/juniors cycling club in Rockwall.
